Folded Drawings

Thoughts on a surface. Works from an ongoing meditative practice. A continuous exploration of a connected line.

Drawings made by folding handmade paper sheets. Some are embossed and/or pulp painted in the hand papermaking process. All have a variety of different materials and techniques applied to the surface. Folding the paper became an excellent way to work very large when traveling, a structured way of experimenting with materials, and continues to be a form of meditation. It is a way to give order and bring focus.

Various handmade papers such as cotton, flax, abaca, hemp and linen. They may have been punched, pierced, hammered, sanded, stitched, perforated or burnished. All papers have graphite applied. Other materials used include: gesso, paint, wax, colored pencil, watercolor, natural dye, tea, shellac, pastel, conte crayon, thread, wire and ink.

Sizes vary from 9 x 7 inches to 60 x 40 inches
